Egypt shuts down last remaining synagogue

As a new mosque pops up every few weeks in America, Egypt puts its last synagogue out of business. Jews lived in Egypt for a thousand years before the world had ever heard of Mohammed. Soon, both Jews and Christians will be erased from Egypt’s history. Springtime for Hitler continues.

Eliyahu Hanavi Synagogue, in Alexandria, Egypt. Built in 1354.

Where religious fanatics have started by persecuting minorities, it has not been long before they turned on their own, accusing them of irreligiousness, heresy and insidious betrayal. The religious freedoms of all Egyptians are in peril.

Fears for the future of religious minorities in Egypt were accentuated last week when it was announced that the last synagogue in the country would be closed down. The Eliyahu Hanavi Synagogue, which had operated in Alexandria, was the last functioning center of Jewish life in the country. It is now clear that its cavernous halls, built in the nineteenth century, will not be open to worshippers hoping to mark Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur services this year.

Traditionally, the synagogue has been managed by an Israeli rabbi of Egyptian descent who frequently returns to the country to lead services there. Although there are many synagogues around Egypt, the one in Alexandria is the only active one, the others having been turned into tourist sites.

This year, as Rabbi Avraham Dayan was making preparations for the High Holidays he was told that the Egyptian authorities could not guarantee the safety and security of those wanting to attend the synagogue. Dayan told Ynet:

“This year there have been some violent demonstrations in Alexandria, and they [sic] are afraid to take responsibility over people…We are trying to organize a quorum, but because of the security-related situation we are not really succeeding. We are still in touch with the Egyptian security organizations and are trying to make some progress.

Sectarian tensions across Egypt have been heightened ever since last year’s revolution, with Christian minorities bearing the brunt of the violence.

One of the unintended consequences of the Arab Spring is the guarantee of security – long assured by the region’s old dictators; it has been cast away by the tide of popular unrest sweeping the region.

The power vacuum and instability caused by the overthrow of Mubarak empowered Salafist and Brotherhood activists who increasingly stoke sectarian tensions. Last October, when Christian activists took to the streets of Cairo to protest their mistreatment, they were first involved in scuffles with radical Islamists before the army moved in. During the resulting crackdown, more than 25 Christian protesters were killed and more than 300 injured. It marked one of the most bloody and shameful sectarian episodes in Egypt’s recent history. A Copt protester, Alfred Younan, told Reuters:

Why didn’t they do this with the Salafists or the Muslim Brotherhood when they organized protests? This is not my country any more.

This kind of instability has meant the Jewish presence in Egypt has steadily declined over much of the last century, and has now dwindled to just a handful in Cairo and Alexandria. A study by Stanley Urman of Jews for Justice from Arab Countries has found that this exodus started with the first Nationality Code in Egypt, passed in May 1926.

The Code stipulated that an Egyptian born to a ‘foreign” father – even if the father had been born in Egypt and had been previously recognized as Egyptian – was only able to claim citizenship if the father could prove that he:

…belonged racially to the majority of the population of a country whose language is Arabic or whose religion is Islam.

This law effectively blocked Jews from claiming Egyptian citizenship and relegated them to a lesser legal status in their own country. Later, because the Jews were not officially Egyptian, the government was able to expel a number of them.

This problem was accentuated in 1947, when amendments were passed which stipulated that at least 75% of administrative employees in any company had to by Egyptian, while 90% of the overall workforce also had to be Egyptian. This, of course, struck against Jewish commerce in the country, placed stifling strictures on some of their business, and accelerated the departure of more Jews.

The news that Egypt’s last synagogue, the Eliyahu Hanavi, will now be unable to hold services effectively brings an end to any remaining semblance of Jewish life in Egypt. This is something which should concern not just Jews, but Muslims too, as it epitomises growing intolerance and persecution of a minority. Where religious fanatics have started by persecuting minorities, it has not been long before they turned on their own, accusing them of irreligiousness, heresy and insidious betrayal. The religious freedoms of all Egyptians are in peril.

Number of mosques in U.S. grows by 74% over past 11 years

Boy, after 9/11 we really showed them, didn’t we. Just what America needs, hundreds of new mosques littering the country.

Waging war on America one mosque at a time.

FILE – In a Thursday, June 21, 2012 file photo, a worker walks out of the construction site of a mosque being built in Murfreesboro, Tenn. The Islamic Center of Murfreesboro and its religious leader, Imam Ossama Bahloul, sued Rutherford County on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 and asked the federal court for an emergency order to let worshippers into the building before the holy month of Ramadan starts at sundown on Thursday. In May, a Rutherford County judge overturned the county’s approval of the mosque construction and this month he ordered the county not to issue an occupancy permit for the 12,000-square-foot building. ( – A survey conducted by a coalition of religious organizations shows that the number of mosques in the United States has grown by 74 percent in the past 11 years – up from 1,209 in 2001 to 2,106 in 2011.

The statistics were released earlier this year by Faith Communities Today (FACT), which is affiliated with the Hartford Seminary’s Hartford Institute for Religion Research.

The survey also reveals where those mosques exist, including the 10 states with the largest number of mosques – New York (257), California (246), Texas (166), Florida (118), Illinois (109), New Jersey (109), Pennsylvania (99), Michigan (77), Georgia (69) and Virginia (62).

Vermont has the least number of mosques, with one located in that state.

The survey also shows that most mosques are located in metropolitan areas, with Greater New York City ranked No. 1 with 192 mosques. Southern California (120), Greater Chicago (90), Greater Philadelphia (63) and Greater Detroit (63) rounded out the top five metropolitan areas for mosque population.

Abbas outraged that Democrats re-inserted Jerusalem into platform

Liberals’ favorite terrorist scumbag is angry that his dupes re-inserted Jerusalem into the Dhimicrat platform.

Times of Israel: – The Palestinians criticized Thursday the US Democratic Party’s decision a day earlierto return language to their party platform that affirmed Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

Nabil Abu Rdeneh, an aide to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, said the Democrat’s decision might just be “election propaganda.” He said a failure to recognize the Palestinian claim to East Jerusalem will “destroy the peace process” and lead to “endless war.”

On Wednesday, the Democratic Party reinstated language into its platform affirming Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, after it came under fire for removing it.

According to campaign officials for President Barack Obama, the re-addition of the statement was a result of intervention by the US president.

The language is at odds with US policy calling for the status of Jerusalem to be resolved through negotiations.

Obama-Clinton prepare $Billion bailout of Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood

Is this the third or fourth billion dollar bailout of Egypt since Springtime for Hitler went into effect? I’ve lost track. And that’s on top of the billions that the U.S. already forks over to the Islamonazis.

U.S. debt just blew past $16 Trillion, and yet the Obama regime still has no problem flushing billions of dollars down Islamic crap-holes around the world.

Wall Street Journal– American diplomats are closing in on an agreement to dole out $1 billion in debt relief to Egypt, part of a gilded charm offensive that Washington hopes will help shore up the country’s economy and prevent its new Islamist leadership from drifting beyond America’s foreign-policy orbit.

A team of senior State Department economic officials have spent the past week in Egypt’s capital completing the terms of an aid package that President Barack Obama first announced last year after Egypt’s pro-democracy uprising rattled the country’s once-promising economic future.

The money has since sat in policy limbo as Egyptian and American diplomats disagreed over how the Egyptian government would allocate the funding and American politicians hesitated over the prospect of rewarding Egypt’s newly elected Islamist leadership.

As the recipient of $1.3 billion in annual U.S. military aid, Egypt has historically ranked among America’s top security partners in the Arab world. Its peace treaty with Israel has helped buttress regional security for more than 30 years.

But the election in June of Egypt’s new Muslim Brotherhood-backed president, Mohammed Morsi, has called the strength of the old alliance into question. However, Mr. Mr. Morsi selected Beijing last week for his first official trip outside the Middle East, followed by a trip to Iran—moves some observers saw as a deliberate snub to Egypt’s traditional Western backers. The arrival of an Islamist government followed by political upheaval and disconcerting moves on the international stage fueled questions over the reliability of Mr. Morsi as a U.S. ally. Morsi’s efforts at internal stability and his public criticism of Syria’s regime while visiting Tehran last week, which angered his hosts, have helped balance U.S. views of the new Egyptian leader.

U.S. diplomats say American funding for Egypt has been stalled by disagreements over how the government in Cairo will allocate the debt relief. The envoys currently in Cairo are negotiating over slightly less than half the money, which would be paid as a direct cash transfer to Egypt’s budget. Continue reading

Video: Hamas MP calls for the annihilation of Jews and Americans

So what else is new?

Every day in every Arab country some Muslim leader calls for the massacring of Jews. It’s who Muslims are. It’s in the Koran. Nothing good can ever be hoped for or expected from them. The real evil is the West’s willful blindness towards these vile savages.

Aug 22, 2012 by – Hamas MP Sheik Ahmad Bahr appeared on Hamas’ Al-Aqsa TV and demanded all Muslims to annihilate the Jews and Americans. He emphasized that it is the individual duty of each Muslim, whether male or female, to wage jihad.

Gaza terrorists firing into Sinai, testing new, improved rockets

Israel should test some rockets into Gaza.

Israel Hayom – Palestinian terrorist groups have recently tested rockets by firing them into the Sinai Peninsula, according to Israeli officials. Officials say a large number of rockets were launched into unpopulated areas in Sinai to enhance rocket-launching capabilities.

The tests were said to have focused on improving the range and payloads of the rockets, and Bedouin residents of Sinai were said to have provided assistance for the tests using satellite navigation devices.

On July 16, Egyptian media outlets reported that Hamas’ military wing test-fired a rocket into Sinai from the neighboring Gaza Strip several weeks earlier. The rocket, according to the reports, was fired toward central Sinai from the Rafiah area in south Gaza, and was capable of reaching further distances than any other missile in Hamas’ rocket arsenal.

Hamas sources in Gaza called the test launch a success after the rocket landed dozens of kilometers from the Gaza border. The new-model rocket, according to the reports, was developed in Gaza based on knowledge from dismantled long-range missiles smuggled into Gaza from Libya.

In June, two Grad rockets believed to have been fired from Sinai were discovered near Ovda and Mitzpe Ramon in southern Israel, after penetrating more deeply into Israel than ever before.

The rockets hit unpopulated areas, causing no injuries or damage, but the targets appeared to indicate that Sinai-based terrorist organizations, perhaps operating in conjunction with Hamas, were expanding their range.

Obama’s beloved PA thanks IOC for refusing to recognize the Munich victims that they themselves massacred

The Fakestinians never miss an opportunity to demonstrate what a bunch of Jew-hating Islamonazis they are. Worse, however, is Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton’s love affair with these terrorist freaks.

It was Black September, a Palestinian terrorist group who committed the massacre, for crying out loud! Black September was made up of mostly Fatah, Mahmoud Abbas’s party. Abbas funded the operation!

(JPost) — The Palestinian Authority has thanked the International Olympic Committee [IOC] for refusing to allow a minute’s silence at the opening ceremony in London to mark the 40th anniversary of the murder of 11 Israeli athletes in the Munich Games.

Jibril Rajoub, head of the Palestinian Football Union, sent a letter to IOC Chairman Jaques Rogge thanking him for his position, the PA’s official news agency, Wafa, reported Wednesday.

In his letter, Rajoub, a former PA security commander, wrote: “Sports is a bridge for love, connection and relaying peace between peoples. It should not be a factor for separation and spreading racism between peoples.”

Wafa said that Rajoub sent the letter to the IOC chairman on Tuesday.

A senior PA official in Ramallah confirmed that Rajoub had sent the letter and said that the Palestinians were opposed to “Israel’s attempts to exploit the Olympic games for propaganda purposes.”

A senior Israeli official responded to the Palestinian letter by saying that “if the leadership of the PA is not willing to disassociate itself from its terrorist past, and is unwilling to see the Munich massacre as a brutal act of terrorism, then in Israeli eyes there will be big questions regarding their true commitment to peace and reconciliation.”

Obama ‘absolutely supports’ moment of silence for Munich victims AFTER Olympic Committee had already nixed the idea due to Muslim pressure

Always “leading from behind.”

The campaign for the first ever Olympic acknowledgement for the Munich Massacre began months ago. No one in the Obama Administration said squat. Neither Obama nor Hillary Clinton raised a pinky in support of it.

Now, only AFTER the Olympic Committe had already flatly rejected the idea has Obama come out in ‘absolute support.’ Such a detestable coward. Of course, Obama supporters are praising his meaningless comment as evidence of his love of Israel and the Jewish people. The Obama Administration pulls this trick in the UN all the time. What a bunch of shmucks.

A member of the terrorist group Black September.

Israel Hayom – U.S. President Barack Obama believes that a formal moment of silence should be held at next week’s opening of the London Olympic Games in memory of the 11 Israelis killed 40 years ago by Palestinian terrorists at the Munich games, the White House confirmed on Thursday.

“We absolutely support the campaign for a moment of silence at the Olympics to honor the Israeli athletes killed in Munich,” National Security Council spokesman Tommy Vietor told Yahoo News.

The International Olympic Committee has refused Israel’s request to hold an official tribute to the 11 Israeli athletes and coaches killed by Palestinian terrorists from the Black September group.

IOC President Jacques Rogge told Israel that Olympic officials would attend the Israeli delegation’s traditional tribute to the victims at the games. “Please rest assured that, within the Olympic family, the memory of the victims of the terrible massacre in Munich in 1972 will never fade away,” Rogge wrote to Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon.

Supporters of the initiative have not given up, and a global campaign is underway to convince the IOC to reverse its decision and hold a moment’s silence at the opening of the games on July 27.

The Senate unanimously approved a resolution on June 25 calling on the IOC to hold such a tribute. A similar measure sailed unopposed through the House Foreign Affairs Committee in early June, but it was not clear on Thursday whether the full House would vote on the measure before the games begin.

Desperate Palestinian Christians protest forced conversion in Hamas-run Gaza

It’s not just in Gaza where Christians are under attack, it has been going on in the Fatah-controlled ‘West Bank’ for decades now. Islam is Islam no matter where it is found, and no matter who is in charge. But don’t expect to hear a peep about it from the Left. For Leftists, Islam is doing them a favor.

Haaretz (h/t Weasel Zippers) — Dozens of Gaza Christians staged a rare public protest Monday, claiming two congregants were forcibly converted to Islam and were being held against their will.

The small but noisy demonstration showed the increasingly desperate situation facing the tiny minority.

Protesters banged on a church bell and chanted, “With our spirit, with our blood we will sacrifice ourselves for you, Jesus.”

Gaza police say the two are staying with a Muslim religious official at their request, because they fear retribution from their families converting to Islam. Two mediators said the two – a 25-year-old man and a woman with three children – appeared to have embraced Islam of their free will. Forced conversions have been unheard of in Gaza before.

Since the Islamic militant Hamas seized power five years ago, Christians have felt increasingly embattled, but have mostly kept silent.

There are growing fears among Gaza Christians that their rapidly shrinking community could disappear through emigration and conversions.

Muslim clerics demand demolition of Egypt’s pyramids in name of Allah

Do it. We dare you. Show the world what a bunch of backwards barbarians you really are. Cut off your #1 source of income – tourism. You don’t deserve such monuments anyway.

FPM via Weasel Zippers

According to several reports in the Arabic media, prominent Muslim clerics have begun to call for the demolition of Egypt’s Great Pyramids — or, in the words of Saudi Sheikh Ali bin Said al-Rabi‘i, those “symbols of paganism,” which Egypt’s Salafi party has long planned to cover with wax. Most recently, Bahrain’s “Sheikh of Sunni Sheikhs” and President of National Unity, Abd al-Latif al-Mahmoud, called on Egypt’s new president, Muhammad Morsi, to “destroy the Pyramids and accomplish what the Sahabi Amr bin al-As could not.”

This is a reference to the Muslim Prophet Muhammad’s companion, Amr bin al-As and his Arabian tribesmen, who invaded and conquered Egypt circa 641. Under al-As and subsequent Muslim rule, many Egyptian antiquities were destroyed as relics of infidelity. While most Western academics argue otherwise, according to early Muslim writers, the great Library of Alexandria itself — deemed a repository of pagan knowledge contradicting the Koran—was destroyed under bin al-As’s reign and in compliance with Caliph Omar’s command. […]

Now, however, as Bahrain’s “Sheikh of Sheikhs” observes, and thanks to modern technology, the pyramids can be destroyed. The only question left is whether the Muslim Brotherhood president of Egypt is “pious” enough — if he is willing to complete the Islamization process that started under the hands of Egypt’s first Islamic conqueror.

Nor is such a course of action implausible. History is laden with examples of Muslims destroying their own pre-Islamic heritage — starting with Islam’s prophet Muhammad himself, who destroyed Arabia’s Ka‘ba temple, transforming it into a mosque.

Obama-Clinton bar Israel from contributing to Global Counterterrorism Forum

Because everyone knows that terror-wracked Israel would have nothing of either expertise or value to contribute to such a forum.

( – As the Obama administration’s new international counterterrorism initiative develops, the exclusion of Israel becomes more glaring with each passing meeting — most recently on Monday, at the beginning of a conference focusing on victims of terrorism.

Addressing the two-day Global Counterterrorism Forum (GCTF) event in Madrid, an administration official mentioned a dozen countries in the context of victims of terrorism – but not Israel.

Launched last fall as a “signature initiative” in what the administration calls its “smart power approach to counterterrorism,” the GCTF comprises 29 countries, with the U.S. and Turkey serving as co-chairs.

Israel’s exclusion provoked comment from the outset, given the country’s long experience both as a target of and fighter against terrorism.

The State Department says future Israeli participation is not ruled out. Still, Turkey’s Islamist-leaning government – which disputes that Hamas is a terrorist group – has worked actively to isolate Israel in the international community.

Further, 11 of the 29 GCTF members are members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), some of which are hostile towards Israel. All subscribe to the OIC’s 1999 Convention on Combating Terrorism which states that “armed struggle against foreign occupation, aggression, colonialism, and hegemony, aimed at liberation and self-determination in accordance with the principles of international law shall not be considered a terrorist crime.”

According to the State Department, Monday’s opening of the GCTF “High-Level Conference on Victims of Terrorism” in the Spanish capital  “brings together government officials, civil society leaders and other stakeholders to discuss how countries can increase their support of victims of terror while cooperating to counter extremist ideologies.”

U.S. Undersecretary for Civilian Security, Democracy and Human Rights Maria Otero. (Photo: U.S. Mission Geneva)

Addressing the event, U.S. undersecretary for civilian security, democracy and human rights Maria Otero noted that Spain, “like the United States and so many countries around the world,” has had firsthand experienced of terrorism and the pain it inflicts on society.

Later, she referred to a documentary that was shown at the GCTF launch last September, recounting the stories of the victims of terror attacks in Pakistan, Jordan, Northern Ireland, Uganda, Turkey, Indonesia, India, Spain, Columbia and the United States.

Similarly, when Secretary of State Hillary Clinton addressed a GCTF event in Istanbul last month, she mentioned the challenge of terrorism in Turkey, Mali, Somalia, Yemen, Nigeria, the Maghreb and Europe, referred obliquely to Pakistan and Afghanistan, and commented on terrorist kidnappings in Latin America and the Sahel.

Israel was not mentioned, either by Otero in Madrid on Monday or by Clinton in Istanbul on June 7.

Obama eagerly awaits September visit by Egypt’s new Islamist president

The new Muslim Brotherhood president will feel right at home in Imam Obama’s Islamist-infested White House. Maybe he’ll have Hillary and Huma Abedin give the Jew-hating Islamonazi special tour.

Islam-loving Reuters says that the Muslim Brotherhood renounced violence years ago. That is patently false and shows how in bed the media is with Islam, and the Muslim Brotherhood in particular.

REUTERS (h/t Weasel Zippers) — US President Barack Obama has invited Egypt’s newly elected Islamist president, Mohamed Mursi, to visit the United States in September, an Egyptian official said on Sunday, reflecting the new ties Washington is cultivating with the region’s Islamists.

Washington, long wary of Islamists and an ally of ousted President Hosni Mubarak, shifted policy last year to open formal contacts with the Muslim Brotherhood, the group behind Mursi’s win. Mursi formally resigned from the group after his victory.

Mursi’s success at the polls mirrors the rising influence of Islamists in countries across the Middle East and North Africa in the wake of revolts and protests against autocratic rulers who have led the region for decades.

“President Obama extended an invitation to President Mursi to visit the United States when he attends the UN General Assembly in September,” Egyptian aide Yasser Ali said after Mursi met US Deputy Secretary of State William Burns in Cairo.

Israel has watched with growing concern the political gains of the Brotherhood, an inspiration for the Palestinian militant group Hamas. The 84-year-old Brotherhood renounced violence as a means to achieve political change in Egypt decades ago.

Muslim Brotherhood set to lead new Libyan government

Funny how every country that Obama and Hillary Clinton touch end up being run by the Muslim Brotherhood.

UK Telegraph – While the elections for a 200-member National Congress is unlikely to grant a majority to any one faction, the Muslim Brotherhood and its Islamist allies are confident they can join their counterparts in Tunisia and Egypt at the helm of leadership.

Negotiations between the Muslim Brotherhood and a secular-based political movement led by former interim prime minister Mahmoud Jibril have focused on forming a post-election government as soon as the result is known.

An adviser to Mr Jibril said the former prime minister was likely to take the post of figurehead president with Mustafa Abu Shagour, currently interim deputy prime minister of the Muslim Brotherhood, taking the prime minister’s slot as head of government.

The Muslim Brotherhood would dominate the ministries.

In the run-up to the elections, Libya’s interim government has struggled to maintain law and order.

A threatened electoral boycott by federalists in Benghazi, the second city, has rattled Libya’s rebels turned leaders. Leading figures fear that large numbers in the city that triggered the rebellion against Muammar Gaddafi may shun the polls, undermining the legitimacy of the election.

Recent attacks on foreign diplomats in Benghazi by Jihadists, a series of ugly micro-conflicts between militias in the Nafousa mountains leaving 105 dead and 300 wounded in the last fortnight and fierce clashes between Arabs, Tebu tribesmen and Tuaregs in the south have put the country on edge.

“We need to ensure stronger and more capable leadership soon after the elections,” said a senior official in the Muslim Brotherhood’s Justice and Construction Party. “That is what Libyans want – more security and stability and progress being made to improve their day-to-day lives. They don’t want deadlock.”

Any coalition government would grant a prominent place to the al-Watan party of Abdulhakim Belhaj, sources said. Mr Belhaj acknowledged that the talks were under way. He said: “I negotiate with anyone who cares about Libya and wants to unite it.”

Meet Egypt’s First Lady Najla Mahmoud – the President’s first cousin and first to wear abaya

A real charmer no doubt.

33 percent of marriages in Egypt are blood related.

First Lady Najla Mahmoud

Gateway Pundit – Egypt’s new First Lady Najla Mahmoud is the first Egyptian First Lady to wear the abaya. She’s also his first cousin.
New America Media reported, via Free Republic:

The world now knows that Mohammed Morsi of the Muslim Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice Party became the first civilian elected president in Egypt’s long history on June 24. But this isn’t the only “first” that Morsi has brought to the Egyptian political landscape.

Morsi is the first Islamist to get to the presidential palace. He is the first Egyptian president with Mohammed as an actual first name—although Hosni Mubarak and Anwar Sadat injected “Mohammed” into their names for Islamic flavor.

Also, he is the first Egyptian president to hold a PhD degree, which he earned in engineering at the University of Southern California (USC). And he is the first president to win a competitive election, where Egyptians had–for the first time–the opportunity to choose from more than one candidate.

An additional “first” that has garnered attention from the West — especially among Americans — is that Morsi’s wife, as the First Lady, is also the first to wear an abaya, the traditional Islamic dress and full coverage hijab.

Her name is Najla Mahmoud. Born in Cairo in 1962, she is Mohammad Morsi’s first cousin… and married Morsi in 1979. The couple has four sons and a daughter.

Egypt’s new First Lady lived in the United States with her husband while he studied at USC. She has been an active member of the Brotherhood for many years running multiple charity projects, particularly in the field of education, and she worked as a translator at the same time.

Algerian author denied cash prize for French literary award after Arab sponsors learn he once visited Israel

Arab ambassadors withdrew a literary prize from Boualem Sansal because he attended the Jerusalem Writers Festival. Hamas accused him of ‘treason’ against the Fakestinians.

Islam is a mental disorder.

Algerian author Boualem Sansal, left.

Times of Israel – Well-known Algerian writer Boualem Sansal received a prestigious French literary award Thursday. However, he did not get the prize of 15,000 euros he had been slated to receive, as the fact that he had visited Israel prompted the Arab sponsors of the prize to withdraw their support, according to a report by French24.

The Editions Gallimard Arabic Novel prize has been granted by the Arab Ambassadors Council, which is based in Paris, since 2008. In the past, the prize was comprised of both an award and a cash prize.

Sansal was nominated for the prize for his book “Rue Darwin” (Darwin Street). However, after being named the winner, he attended the Jerusalem Writers Festival, which took place in May. He was invited to the festival as the guest of honor. Palestinian groups slammed his decision to attend, with Hamas reportedly calling his participation “an act of treason against the Palestinian people.”

After a protracted argument, Sansal was given his award on Thursday, but without the prize money, France24 reported.

Commenting on the decision to withdraw the prize money, laureate Sansal said it was “completely unacceptable,” adding that Arab countries – and his home country, Algeria, in particular – had “shut themselves in a prison of intolerance.”

Sansal added that in order to truly help the Palestinians, individuals like himself should be able to visit Israel freely. “Yes, there are complicated relations with Israel, but we are not at war with them,” he said.

French cultural figures were quick to denounce the council’s decision as a capitulation to Hamas pressure.

Egypt sentences 5 businessmen to 15 years in prison for not overcharging Israel for natural gas

If you don’t screw the Joos, then you will be screwed.

This is what democracy looks like in Obama’s Arab Spring.

Arutz Sheva – A criminal court in Egypt today jailed a former Mubarak-era cabinet minister and a businessman for 15 years each for selling Israel natural gas “below market value.”

“The Cairo criminal court sentenced former oil minister Sameh Fahmi and fugitive businessman Hussein Salem to 15 years in prison each over the (Israel) gas deal,” a judicial source told AFP.

Salem, is a former partner in the East Mediterranean Gas Co (EMG), an Israeli-Egyptian consortium.

The men were accused “of exporting gas to Israel at below market value” undermining the interests of Egypt, the source added.

Israeli officials have said the paid competitive market rates for natural gas from Egypt under the deal, when viewed in relation to global markets.

Nonetheless, five former high ranking officials from the oil and gas authority received jail sentences ranging from three to 10 years on similar charges, the judicial source added. Continue reading

Erdogan slams ‘murderous’ Assad, mobilizes tanks, troops to Syrian border

Crazy Muslims versus crazy Muslims. May they both win.

Times of IsraelThe Turkish military mobilized large numbers of reinforcements from its eastern provinces to the Syrian border on Tuesday, amid rising tension with Damascus, after the downing by Syria of a Turkish Air Force jet on Friday, Turkish media reported.

Large numbers of Turkish troops — including at least 15 long-range artillery pieces and tanks – moved to the Syrian frontier from the eastern city of Diyarbakir. A video published by the Turkish Cihan News Agency showed Turkish tanks being transported by carrier trucks toward the frontier.

The mobilization followed statements by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan that the Turkish military will respond to any future violation of its border by Syrian military elements.

“As awe-inspiring as Turkey’s friendship is, Turkey’s wrath is equally awe-inspiring,” Erdogan told the Turkish parliament on Tuesday.

“The rules of engagement of the Turkish Armed Forces have changed,” Erdogan said. “Any military element that approaches the Turkish border from Syria posing a security risk and danger will be regarded as a threat and treated as a military target.”

Erdogan closed his remarks with an especially harsh condemnation of Syrian President Bashar Assad: “Turkey and the Turkish people will continue to provide all support until the people of Syria have been saved from this tyrannical, murderous, bloody dictator and his gang.”

Opposition sources in Syria reported at least 86 civilians were killed by Assad troops on Tuesday.

The father of one of the two missing pilots who were shot down in Friday’s incident told Turkish newspaper Hürriyet Daily News that he opposed Turkey going to war over his son.

“It is not appropriate for a country to go to war over a pilot, an airplane or 50 airplanes,” Ali Erton said. He said he was aware of the risks his son took as a military pilot, but added “what matters is that my son serves his country.”

Video: Liz Chenny warns about the Muslim Brotherhood, dismayed by Obama Administration’s admiration for them

Liz Cheney calls foul on the Obama Administration’s support for the rise of the Muslim Brotherhood.

Jun 26, 2012 by – Liz Chenny as always does an excellent job informing us about the dangers of the newly elected Muslim Brotherhood president of Egypt and what it means for us, Israel and any other group or persons that the Brotherhood does not like.

Muslim Brotherhood candidate Mohammed Morsi declared president of Egypt

The largest Muslim Brotherhood regime on the planet, courtesy of Barack Hussein Obama and Hillary Clinton.

Times of Israel – Muslim Brotherhood candidate Mohammed Morsi was declared the first democratically elected president of Egypt Sunday afternoon, ending months of speculation as to who would replace deposed leader Hosni Mubarak.

The carrying out of free elections in Egypt was a stunning development in a country that had been governed by autocracy until a popular revolution ousted Mubarak in January 2011.

Morsi, who won an earlier round of presidential voting, was declared the winner with 51.7 percent of the vote, compared to 48.3 percent for his opponent Ahmed Shafiq.

Officials said 843,250 votes were declared void.

Some 51% of Egypt’s voting-eligible public cast ballots in the runoff election.

The announcement by election official Farouk Sultan came after a 45-minute delay and a long prologue.

The election of Morsi is expected to be challenged in the supreme court.

Tahrir Square erupted into loud cheers and mass celebrations as the winner was announced, with thousands of people waving flags, shouting and dancing.

“As Egyptians celebrate their freedom, we pay special tribute to the martyrs of the great Egyptian revolution, their blood didn’t go in vain,” the Brotherhood tweeted shortly after the announcement.

Morsi’s spokesman Ahmed Abdel-Attie said words cannot describe the “joy” in this “historic moment.”

“We got to this moment because of the blood of the martyrs of the revolution,” he said. “Egypt will start a new phase in its history.”

Gaza terrorists let loose barrage of rockets on Israel’s Sderot, school hit

Rocket attacks from Fakestinian-occupied Gaza continue to plague Israel’s south. The Arab terrorists have fired over 150 rockets into Israel in the past several days, adversely affecting the lives of some 1 million Israeli citizens.

So far during 2012, over 300 rockets have been fired at Israel from the Gaza Strip. The only word from either the international community or the Obama Administration have been demands of “restraint” for Israel. No country in the world would put up with such harassment, only Israel is told that it must. If any other country had such a flea on its ass they’d have swatted the parasite a long time ago and been done with it.

Times of Israel – Gaza-based terrorists fired 22 rockets into southern Israel on Saturday, causing damage to a school and factory. The latest attacks bring the total number of rockets and other projectiles fired from the Strip to approximately 150 over the past six days.

The majority of the rockets launched Saturday were aimed at the southern city of Sderot, but several landed in other parts of the Eshkol, Hof Ashkelon and Shaar Hanegev Regional Councils, which border the Strip.

One of the rockets exploded in Sderot’s industrial zone, causing moderate-to-severe injuries to one man and damaging a factory.

According to Magen David Adom paramedics who arrived at the scene, the 50-year-old man was hit in the neck by shrapnel from the explosion.

Another rocket caused damage to a school in Sderot, but there were no reports of injuries. The school had been reinforced against rocket fire.

Several area residents were treated for shock.

Iron Dome shot down five of the incoming rockets, according to Israel Radio.

Six of the rockets landed around neighboring Netivot.

50 rockets fired into Israel in past 24 hours, IAF strikes 7 terrorist sites in Gaza

The rocket fire continues.

IAF aircraft attacked six terror sites in the Gaza Strip overnight, Wednesday (June 20). An additional strike was carried out this early this morning, targeting a terror sites in the northern Gaza Strip. Hits were confirmed and all aircraft returned safely to their airbases.

The sites were targeted in response to ongoing rocket fire from the Gaza Strip over the past few days, targeting civilian communities in southern Israel.

Most schools in the region surrounding the Gaza Strip will be closed, and civilians are advised to stay indoors and in protected areas.

Arutz Sheva – IAF aircraft struck a terror target in northern Gaza early Wednesday morning, the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit announced in a statement.

The statement said direct hits were identified and all aircraft returned safely to their bases.

Overnight Tuesday, IAF aircraft struck six terror targets throughout Gaza.

The air strikes came in response to the barrage of rockets that were fired toward southern Israel by terrorists in Hamas-controlled Gaza. 45 terrorist rockets slammed into southern Israel between midnight on Tuesday and 3:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.

At least ten additional rockets were fired by terrorists in the overnight hours Tuesday. In one case, an exploding rocket caused damage to a building. There were no physical injuries.

Most of the rockets were of the short range Qassam type but three Grad missiles were fired at Netivot. In one attack on Tuesday evening, four Border Police officers were hurt, one of them seriously.

Wednesday morning’s IAF strike marks the fifth such air strike in the last 24 hours. At least six terrorists were killed in previous strikes. An IAF strike Tuesday afternoon severely injured a man who was on a motorcycle, Gaza sources said.

Suicide terrorists are “greatest role models,” says European-funded NGO for youth on PA TV

The Arab Fakestinians are a death cult, and Europeans are their best benefactors.

Jun 10, 2012 by – On May 31, 2012, Israel transferred the bodies of 91 terrorists including numerous suicide bombers to the Palestinian Authority. A PA TV program for youth, “Speak Up,” glorified the 91 terrorists. The TV program is co-produced by PA TV and PYALARA, an NGO for youth funded by the EU, Save the Children and other international donors.

Obama bans Israel from Global Counterterrorism Forum

Obama bows to Turkey yet again. Throws Israel under the bus yet again.

It’s for the best. 29 countries are participating in the GCTF, 10 of which are Arab and/or Muslim countries. Why should Israel be sharing its expertise with those that want to destroy her anyway. It’s clear that the world is not serious about terrorism. If it were, it wouldn’t be sharing its know-how with ten terror-supporting countries.

Arutz Sheva – The United States blocked Israel’s participation in the Global Counterterrorism Forum’s (GCTF) first meeting in Istanbul on Friday, despite Israel’s having one of the most extensive counterterrorism experiences in the world.

Israel was excluded from the meeting due to fierce objections by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, a Washington-based source told Globes news.

According the State Department’s website, the GCTF, which was established in September 2011, aims at “strengthening the global counterterrorism (CT) architecture in a manner that complements and reinforces the CT work of existing multilateral bodies.”

Twenty-nine countries are participating in the GCTF, ten of which are Arab and/or Muslim countries.

“The GCTF sought from the outset to bridge old and deep divides in the international community between Western donor nations and Muslim majority nations. And it has, I think, done that quite effectively,” a top US official said at the press briefing prior to the opening session.

Obama Hugs Erdogan, April 2009

Republican politicians claim that since one third of the GCTF’s members are Muslim countries, the Obama administration is trying to deepen ties with the Muslim world at Israel’s expense, Globes noted.

“Our idea with the GCTF was to bring together a limited number of traditional donors, front line states, and emerging powers develop a more robust, yet representative, counterterrorism capacity-building platform. A number of our close partners with considerable experience countering and preventing terrorism are not included among the GCTF’s founding members,” a State Department spokesman said in response to questions about Israel’s exclusion from the GCTF.

“We have discussed the GCTF and ways to involve Israel in its activities on a number of occasions, and are committed to making this happen,” he added.

Pro-Israeli sources say that the Obama administration decided to ignore the fact that Turkey, which has a key role in the GCTF, opposes calling Hamas a terrorist organization, even though the State Department lists it as such.

In May, Turkey blocked Israel’s participation in a NATO summit in Chicago and maintained that NATO–Israel relations cannot be restored until Turkey-Israel relations are normalized.

Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood candidate: When we take power we will retry Mubarak for a “more appropriate sentence”

Of course you will.

By a “more appropriate sentence” he means seeing Mubarak swinging at the end of a rope.

Israel Hayom – Following the sentencing of deposed Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak to life in prison on Saturday, tens of thousands of Egyptians flooded into Tahrir Square in Cairo, demanding the death penalty for the ailing former leader. Demonstrators blocked roads leading to the square, burned tires and hurled stones and bottles at security forces.

Similar protests went on in the Mediterranean port city of Alexandria and Suez on the Red Sea.

“Justice was not served. This is a sham,” Ramadan Ahmed, whose son was killed on Jan. 28, the bloodiest day of last year’s uprising, said ouside the courthouse.

Protesters chanted: “A farce, a farce, this trial is a farce,” and “The people want execution of the murderer.” While some called for Mubarak’s execution, others feared the judge’s ruling exposed weaknesses in the case that could let the ex-military strongman off on appeal.

The case against Mubarak, his sons and top aides was very limited in scope, focusing only on the uprising’s first few days and two narrow corruption cases. It was never going to provide a full accountability of wrongdoing under Mubarak’s three decades of authoritarian rule enforced by a brutal police force and a coterie of businessmen linked to the regime who amassed wealth while nearly half of Egypt’s estimated 85 million people lived in poverty.

During the demonstration, protesters shouted slogans against the ruling military council, clashed with pro-Mubarak supporters and burned images of Mubarak and Ahmed Shafiq, who served as prime minister under Mubarak and made it to the runoff for Egypt’s first democratic presidential elections scheduled for June 16-17.

Shafiq commented on the sentence on Saturday, saying, “Egypt’s legal system meted out justice and proved that no one in Egypt is above the law. Every president who is elected must learn a historical lesson from this ruling.”

Other presidential candidates denounced the sentence. Hamdeen Sabahi, a socialist and a champion of the poor who made a surprisingly strong showing in the first round of the elections but did not ultimately make it to the run-off, attended the demonstration at Tahrir Square and got a warm welcome from protesters.

“The ruling proves that Egypt’s legal system is still infected with remnants of the former regime,” Sabahi said as he was carried by supporters in the crowd.

Muslim Brotherhood presidential candidate Mohammed Morsi, who will face Shafiq in the run-off, not only condemned the sentence, but promised that if elected, he would demand a retrial for Mubarak.

“This criminal deserves the death penalty,” Morsi told the Egyptian media. “With Allah’s help, when we will be in power, we will replace the prosecutor and the judges and conduct a retrial to achieve a more appropriate sentence for Mubarak and his fellow criminals.”

Head of Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood: Israel “the worst catastrophe ever to befall the peoples of the world”

More of that loving feeling from the Obama Administration’s favorite peace partners, the Muslim Brotherhood.

Springtime for Hitler marches on.

Jerusalem Post – The head of Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood has called on Arab forces to confront Israel and for the international community to pressure the “Zionist government to withdraw from the land of Palestine.”

The comments by Brotherhood General Guide Mohammed Badie came in a written statement issued May 17 to commemorate Nakba Day, when Palestinians and other Arabs mourn Israel’s creation in 1948.

The statement – the existence of which was revealed Wednesday by the Investigative Project on Terrorism blog – reminds Brotherhood followers of the movement’s decades-long “sacrifices” in efforts to destroy the Jewish state.

“On this day, like every year, the Arab and Islamic nations remember the worst catastrophe ever to befall the peoples of the world,” Badie wrote in the text, translated by The Jerusalem Post. “We demand the international community rectify the historic injustice [of 1948] and pressure the government of the Zionist entity to withdraw from the land of Palestine.”

The statement portrays the Arab revolts of the last 18 months as part of an inexorable process to “liberate” land now in the State of Israel.

“We have toppled the most repressive regimes with purpose and determination,” Badie wrote. “We have begun the era of liberation of all peoples, first of all the Palestinian people, [suffering from] the worst occupation known to man – the Zionist occupation.”

Uriya Shavit, a lecturer in Tel Aviv University’s Department for Arabic and Islamic Studies, said those acquainted with the Brotherhood’s history will find the message unsurprising.

“The idea that the Brotherhood doesn’t recognize the legitimacy of Israel, and the call to eradicate it at some point, is something the group has never denied. It’s been in Brotherhood literature from its founding in 1928 until this very day,” Shavit said. Continue reading
