AP (h/t Weasel Zippers) — Police discovered the body of a 79-year-old Christian woman killed in northeast Nigeria, with a note in Arabic left on her chest reading: “We will get you soon,” a witness said Thursday.

The slaying raises religious tensions in Nigeria as a radical Islamist sect increasingly targets Christians in its bloody attacks. While police said they knew of no immediate suspects in the killing, witnesses blamed the attack on the sect known as Boko Haram, which has been blamed for killing at least 305 people this year alone, according to an Associated Press count.

The dead woman was identified as Shetu Haruna Malgwi, a Christian living in the city of Maiduguri in Nigeria’s Muslim north. Assailants apparently attacked Malgwi on Wednesday, a day after she returned home from receiving an eye treatment in the city of Kaduna, Borno state police spokesman Samuel Tizhe said.

Her killers slit the woman’s throat, then wrote a note with red pen they left on her chest, witness Audu Ibrahim said. Ibrahim said the woman’s family believes the message is for her son, who is a pastor of a local church where the 79-year-old sang in the choir.

Authorities found a Bible placed under the woman’s feet, Ibrahim said. Police continue to investigate the killing and no arrests have been made, Tizhe said.

Boko Haram, whose name means “Western education is sacrilege” in the local Hausa language, is carrying out increasingly sophisticated and bloody attacks in its campaign to implement strict Shariah law and avenge Muslim killings in Nigeria, a multiethnic nation of more than 160 million people.

HeritageFoundation on Feb 23, 2012 – During a speech on gas prices the President tried to dodge responsibility for the pain Americans are feeling at the pump. But the President and his Administration have repeatedly stated that they want higher energy prices. They want to use the pressure of higher energy costs as an excuse to force their green energy boondoggle on Americans.

IBD – The White House billed President Obama’s energy policy speech as a response to mounting criticism of record high gas prices. What he delivered was a grab bag of excuses and outright falsehoods.

Obama’s main message to struggling motorists was: It’s not my fault, so stop whining. The speech only got worse from there, recycling excuses and myths that Obama’s peddled for years. But there were some standout whoppers that deserve debunking. The five biggest:

“We’re focused on production.”

Fact: While production is up under Obama, this has nothing to do with his policies, but is the result of permits and private industry efforts that began long before Obama occupied the White House.

Obama has chosen almost always to limit production. He canceled leases on federal lands in Utah, suspended them in Montana, delayed them in Colorado and Utah, and canceled lease sales off the Virginia coast.

His administration also has been slow-walking permits in the Gulf of Mexico, approving far fewer while stretching out review times, according to the Greater New Orleans Gulf Permit Index. The Energy Dept. says Gulf oil output will be down 17% by the end of 2013, compared with the start of 2011. Swift Energy President Bruce Vincent is right to say Obama has “done nothing but restrict access and delay permitting.”

“The U.S. consumes more than a fifth of the world’s oil. But we only have 2% of the world’s oil reserves.”

Fact: Obama constantly refers to this statistic to buttress his claim that “we can’t drill our way to lower gas prices.” The argument goes that since the U.S. supply is limited, it won’t ever make a difference to world prices.

It’s bogus. New exploration and drilling technologies have uncovered vast amounts of recoverable oil.

In fact, the U.S. has a mind-boggling 1.4 trillion barrels of oil, enough to “fuel the present needs in the U.S. for around 250 years,” according to the Institute for Energy Research. The problem is the government has put most of this supply off limits.

“Because of the investments we’ve made, the use of clean, renewable energy in this country has nearly doubled.”

Fact: Production of renewable energy — biomass, wind, solar and the like — climbed just 12% between 2008 and 2011, according to the federal Energy Information Administration.

“We need to double-down on a clean energy industry that’s never been more promising.”

Fact: Renewable energy simply won’t play an important role in the country’s energy picture anytime soon, accounting for just 13% of U.S. energy production by 2035, according to the EIA.

“There are no short-term silver bullets when it comes to gas prices.”

Fact: Obama could drive down oil prices right now simply by announcing a more aggressive effort to boost domestic supplies. When President Bush lifted a moratorium in 2008, oil prices immediately fell $9 a barrel.

Obama said in his speech that Americans aren’t stupid. He’s right about that, which is why most are giving his energy policy a thumbs down.

Arutz Sheva – Yemeni electoral officials Wednesday were still counting votes after Tuesday’s presidential poll in which the nation’s interim leader was the only candidate.

Vice President Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi is expected to be rubber stamped in an election that ends the 33-year reign of President Ali Abdullah Saleh.

Electoral officials in Yemen say that turnout in Tuesday’s vote reached 60 per cent nationwide, but in the south, where ten people were killed in clashes between separatists and police, turnout was far lower.

“Average nationwide voter participation reached 60 per cent,” an official, who spoke with Gulf News on condition of anonymity, said.

In the main southern city of Aden, 50 per cent of eligible voters cast their ballots, while in other southern provinces, turnout was less than 40 per cent.

Separatists in the south rejected a single candidate poll, but Hadi is widely seen as an honest broker by opposition leaders, members of Saleh’s old guard, and international actors in Yemen.

Saleh’s departure and Hadi’s uncontested election were a part of a Washington-backed deal brokered by the Gulf Cooperation Council for a smooth transition of power in Yemen.

Under the deal Hadi, who has effectively run the country since an assassination attempt on Saleh in June 2011, will head unity government tasked with undertaking much needed political and financial reform.

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton hailed the vote as “another important step forward in their [Yemen's] democratic transition process.”

“The election sends a clear message that the people of Yemen are looking forward to a brighter democratic future,” she said, pledging Washington would “continue to support Yemen” in its “urgent economic, social and humanitarian challenges.”

Over the weekend, Hadi outlined his government’s two-year plan, focusing on the need to reunify the army, destroy al-Qaeda, and carry-out “radical reforms.”

Resolving the “economic problem is our top priority, but our current circumstances and the consequences of the recent (political) crisis has forced us to ask for help,” Hadi said.

“This is why we are renewing our request for urgent aid and support from brotherly and friendly countries to allocate funds,” pledged to Yemen by donors.

He further proposed the “establishment of an emergency fund to help the Yemeni government overcome the current economic crisis.”

The International Monetary Fund says it is ready to discuss fresh aid when the situation in Yemen is calmer, but that it cannot adopt and implement economic reforms until there is a government in place.

Violence has increased drastically since Barack Obama’s hasty retreat, but neither he nor Hillary Clinton will lose a wink of sleep over the death and mayham. It goes along with every policy they enact. It’s only going to get worse.

The Hill (h/t Weasel Zippers) — Oil speculators, not a lack of domestic drilling, are to blame for the nation’s rising gas prices, the top House Democrat argued Wednesday.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said unscrupulous Wall Street investors have artificially inflated prices at the pump, which are climbing toward $4 per gallon.

The California Democrat called on Congress to take “strong action” to rein in the allegedly excessive speculation, and accused Republicans of protecting Wall Street profits at the expense of consumers.

“Wall Street profiteering, not oil shortages, is the cause of the price spike,” Pelosi said in a statement. “Unfortunately, Republicans have chosen to protect the interests of Wall Street speculators and oil companies instead of the interests of working Americans by obstructing the agencies with the responsibility of enforcing consumer protection laws.”

The comments – arriving a day before President Obama is scheduled to address the issue of rising gas prices in Miami – represent just the latest shot in the perennial and largely partisan debate over the cause of price fluctuations in the oil and gasoline markets.

The passengers would have none of it, and pounced on the creep.

KHOU – HOUSTON—Charges may be filed against a man accused of causing a disturbance on a Continental Airlines flight bound for Houston on Tuesday.

Passengers said the man was a hassle from the beginning and once the flight took off, he tried to light an electronic cigarette.

Flight attendants asked the passenger to turn off the cigarette, but he refused.

Other fed up passengers helped subdue the unruly man while the pilot turned the plane around and headed back to Portland.

The passenger was taken into custody when the plane landed.

According to one of the passengers, the unruly passenger kept repeating, “Allah is great.”

If she and her fellow Democrats were right, then between the record number of Americans on food stamps – which Democrats also claim stimulate the economy – and 3 years of a record number of people receiving unemployment, the U.S. economy should be growing at record rates, rather than mired in economic mud. It also begs the question: If food stamps and unemployment checks are so good for the economy, why not put the entire nation on them? But, of course, that is what the Obama Administration is aiming to do. Complete and total reliance on the State. I.e., communism.

Weekly Standard – This evening, speaking at North Carolina Central University in Durham, North Carolina, White House senior adviser Valerie Jarrett said that folks getting and spending unemployment checks is a healthy thing . . . because it stimulates the economy:

“Even though we had a terrible economic crisis three years ago, throughout our country many people were suffering before the last three years, particularly in the black community,” Jarrett said. “And so we need to make sure that we continue to support that important safety net. It not only is good for the family, but it’s good for the economy. People who receive that unemployment check go out and spend it and help stimulate the economy, so that’s healthy as well.”

ABC News – An alleged Iranian hit squad used $27 portable radios to hide at least five bombs that Israeli and American authorities say they intended to use against Israeli targets in Bangkok, Thailand.

Exclusive photos of one undetonated bomb, obtained by ABC News, show the inside of the radio packed with tiny ball bearings and six magnets. Bomb experts say the magnets indicate the bomb was designed to be stuck to the side of a vehicle.

A surveillance photo of one of the alleged hit squad members, identified as an Iranian national named Saeid Moradi, shows him holding a radio in each hand.

According to authorities, a bomb exploded in the Bangkok house where Moradi and two other Iranians had been staying. After the blast, Moradi attempted to hail a cab. When the driver refused to pick him up, he allegedly threw a bomb, injuring four bystanders.

When police approached, Moradi allegedly threw another bomb, but lost both of his legs when it bounced back and exploded near him, according to Thai authorities. He was arrested following the incident and remains in custody in Thailand.

After the attack, police say they discovered two unexploded bombs in the house where Moradi and the other Iranians had been staying, including the one shown in the photos.

The authorities in Bangkok say they recovered more than a pound of white military explosive from one unexploded bomb that they said was to be detonated with an M26 hand grenade fuse. The photos show a pin that when pulled, authorities said, would trigger an explosion about four and a half seconds after it was pulled.

Israeli authorities and U.S. bomb experts say the bomb in the photos is strikingly similar to those used in other attacks last week in the republic of Georgia and India. “While there are small differences,” said one U.S. expert, “they appear to be factory made.”

Multiple authorities told ABC News the devices were either slipped through airport security or smuggled in a diplomatic pouch.

A magnetic bomb was discovered attached to the car of an Israeli diplomat in Tbilisi, Georgia and a similar device was believed responsible for the attack in New Delhi, which injured the wife of an Israeli diplomat, her driver and two passing motorists.

Arab "spontaneous" stone throwing event

Jewish Press – Yesterday, AP published the photo below. They presented it as a story were about Palestinians throwing rocks at Israeli cars on the main highway near Hebron, this photo is particularly interesting because the photographer caught the rock right as it shattered an Israeli woman’s window.

But that isn’t the story, the story is really about what you see in the background. AP and the other photographers are the real story. The photograph is the real story.

If you look in the background of the picture you’ll see a Press photographer, and obviously there are more around because a different photographer took this picture.

Is it by chance that a gaggle of international media photographers happened to know exactly where to be for a “spontaneous” stone throwing event? From all the towns and all the roads in the entire Judea and Samaria, a group of international media photographers just happened to be just at the right time and place. Coincidence? Hard to believe.

The real story is about the international media apparently receiving advanced warning as to where to go to regularly get these photographs. There have even been cases in the International media where photographers helped stage the stone throwing for the story. And certainly when a gaggle of photographers are around, the Palestinians are happy to give them a story, making the photographers part of the story itself.

So which one is it here? We’ll probably never know.

But we do know there is obviously collusion, direct or indirect, going on between the organizers of these “spontaneous” stone throwing events and the international media which distributes their productions for them.
