(CNSNews.com) – A survey conducted by a coalition of religious organizations shows that the number of mosques in the United States has grown by 74 percent in the past 11 years – up from 1,209 in 2001 to 2,106 in 2011.

The statistics were released earlier this year by Faith Communities Today (FACT), which is affiliated with the Hartford Seminary’s Hartford Institute for Religion Research.

The survey also reveals where those mosques exist, including the 10 states with the largest number of mosques – New York (257), California (246), Texas (166), Florida (118), Illinois (109), New Jersey (109), Pennsylvania (99), Michigan (77), Georgia (69) and Virginia (62).

Vermont has the least number of mosques, with one located in that state.

The survey also shows that most mosques are located in metropolitan areas, with Greater New York City ranked No. 1 with 192 mosques. Southern California (120), Greater Chicago (90), Greater Philadelphia (63) and Greater Detroit (63) rounded out the top five metropolitan areas for mosque population.

AGAIN! Obama-Clinton State Dept – Israel has no capital, we don’t recognize Jerusalem

Weekly Standard – The State Department today again refused to name the capital of Israel, even after being questioned by the press and even after the Democratic party (President Obama’s party) voted yesterday to add language to its platform stating that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel.

Here’s the remarkable exchange from today’s press briefing, with reporters and press secretary Patrick Ventrell:

QUESTION: On Israel?

MR. VENTRELL: Yeah.

QUESTION:Which city does the U.S. Government recognize as the capital in the – Israel?

MR. VENTRELL: Well, as you know, longstanding Administration policy, both in this Administration and in previous administrations across both parties, is that the status of Jerusalem is an issue that should be resolved in final status negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians. So that’s longstanding Administration policy and continues to be so.

QUESTION: I mean, no city is recognized as a capital by the U.S. Government?

MR. VENTRELL: Again, I just stated our position, and it’s one we’ve said here many times before.

QUESTION: That means Jerusalem is not a part of Israel?

MR. VENTRELL: What it means is that the status of Jerusalem must be resolved in final status negotiations.

QUESTION: But you do have an Embassy in a city which is not Jerusalem.

MR. VENTRELL: Our Embassy is in Tel Aviv, and we have a Consulate General in Jerusalem.

QUESTION: Right. But I mean, if you have an Embassy, usually it’s in the capital; so therefore, it would appear that you believe that Tel Aviv is the capital.

MR. VENTRELL: What we believe is that the status of Jerusalem should be determined in final status negotiations between the two parties. And currently, our Embassy is in Tel Aviv.

QUESTION: Are there any other countries in the world where the U.S. doesn’t know what the capital is or won’t say what the capital of a country is?

QUESTION: What does the U.S. think the capital of Israel is? What do you –

MR. VENTRELL: As I’ve just said, we believe that the status of Jerusalem is an issue that should be resolved in final status –

QUESTION: I’m not asking you that question. I’m asking you what you think the capital is.

MR. VENTRELL: And my response is that Jerusalem is an issue that should be resolved in final status negotiations.

QUESTION: She didn’t ask about Jerusalem, though.

MR. VENTRELL: Look, this is something we’ve been through at this podium. Toria has been through it before. We’ve repeated it many times. You know that the position is. It hasn’t changed for decades.

QUESTION: Wait, I know that. And I don’t want to play the verbal game, I’m just very curious if you actually have a position about a capital of that country. And if you don’t, if – I just would like to hear you say you don’t.

MR. VENTRELL: Well, right now, Nicole –

QUESTION: Yes.

MR. VENTRELL: – the situation is that we have an Embassy in Tel Aviv that represents our interests with the Government of Israel but that the issue of Jerusalem is one that has to be resolved between the two parties. That’s all I can say on this.

US President Barack Obama’s administration does not understand the realities of the Middle East, Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin said Wednesday, amid ongoing speculation of a rift in US-Israel relations.

“The fact that the Democrats removed a united Jerusalem as Israel’s capital from their platform is more worrying than the argument over Iran,” Rivlin told The Jerusalem Post. “The change may have far-reaching consequences.”

…According to Rivlin, anyone who thinks that dividing Jerusalem will bring peace is mistaken, and does not understand the Middle East. “A united Jerusalem will help bring peace and stability,” he stated.

2012 DNC platform deletes pro-Israel passages

Another four years of Obama and his radicals and the DNC platform will be indistinguishable from that of Hamas or Hezbollah.

Washington Beacon – Several pro-Israel sections of the 2008 Democratic Party platform have been removed from the 2012 platform—on Jerusalem, Palestinian refugees, and Hamas. The new platform represents another shift by the Obama Democrats toward the Palestinian position on key issues in the peace process.

For Jerusalem, the new platform has been brought into line with the Obama administration’s policy of not recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and supporting its division. Jerusalem is unmentioned in the 2012 document, whereas the 2008 and 2004 Democratic Party platforms declared “Jerusalem is and will remain the capital of Israel…It should remain an undivided city accessible to people of all faiths.” The Obama administration’s refusal to recognize Jerusalem has been a point of significant controversy in recent months.

On the issue of Palestinian refugees, the new document has removed language from the 2004 and 2008 platforms specifying that Palestinian “refugees” should be settled in a future Palestinian state, not in Israel.

The 2004 platform: “The creation of a Palestinian state should resolve the issue of Palestinian refugees by allowing them to settle there, rather than in Israel.”

The 2008 platform: The peace process “should resolve the issue of Palestinian refugees by allowing them to settle there, rather than in Israel.”

The 2012 platform contains no language on the matter.

Previously, Obama has incorporated the Palestinian positions on Jerusalem and borders into his administration’s policies. It appears that with his party’s new platform, he is also doing so with refugees.

Gone as well is the language from 2008 on the terrorist group Hamas, which currently controls the Gaza Strip. That platform declared, “The United States and its Quartet partners should continue to isolate Hamas until it renounces terrorism, recognizes Israel’s right to exist, and abides by past agreements.”

The 2012 platform contains no mention of Hamas.

Previous platforms also contained promises to maintain Israel’s “qualitative military edge” in the region. The 2008 platform, for example, spoke of a “commitment which requires us to ensure that Israel retains a qualitative edge for its national security and its right to self-defense.” The 2012 platform mentions only that “[t]he administration has also worked to ensure Israel’s qualitative military edge in the region,” with no commitment to doing so in the future.

These views were expressed by eminent scholars and speakers during a workshop on “Multiculturalism in Europe in the light of International Developments after 9/11″ organised by University of Karachi Area Study Centre for Europe in collaboration with the Hanns Seidel Foundation, here the other day.

In the opening remarks, Prof Dr Moonis Ahmar threw light on the concept and prospects of multiculturalism. He posed a question that to what extent multiculturalism may succeed or not succeed? In his views, multiculturalism requires tolerance and respect.

Dr Rashid Ahmad Khan, Dean, Faculty of Arts, Social Sciences and Law, University of Sargodha, paid gratitude to the director Area Study Centre for Europe for organising this thought provoking workshop.

He said that ethnicity and faith are very important issues and the politics of ethnicity and faith in the 21st century has increased. He said that ethnicity in 21st century has new meanings and is used with new applications at national as well as international level. Account to him cold war is the most important development that paved the way for ethnicity and related issues. He gave the example of former Yugoslavia and former Soviet Union where people became active about ethical values after the end of cold war. On the topic of international migration, he said that the process of globalisation increased international migration.

Dr Rashid cited various definitions of ethnicity and said that the common factor in all the definitions of ethnicity is the element of having common decreased.

Obama assures Iran that U.S. won’t join an Israeli attack

It’s clear whose back Obama has in the Middle East.

Arutz Sheva – Senior officials in the Obama Administration sent a message to Tehran in the past few days, according to which the U.S. does not intend to join Israel’s side if it decides to attack the Iranian nuclear installations on its own, reports Israel’s second-largest paper, Yediot Aharonot.

According to the report, the U.S. sent the message to Iran in order to avoid an Iranian response military response that would target U.S. installations in the Gulf region.

The message was reportedly conveyed to Iran through two European countries that serve as a conduit of communication between Iran and the U.S. in times of crisis.

Nationalist newspaper Makor Rishon has accused Yediot Aharonot of working with the Obama Administration against the Netanyahu government’s planned strike on Iran.

According to the New York Times, senior U.S. officials have argued that Israel is “trying to corner” Obama into a military commitment that he does not yet need to make.

Gaza’s millionaires funding Hamas through underground smuggling

Jewish Press – The world often thinks of the Gaza Strip, home to 1.4 million Palestinians, as one of the poorest places on earth, where people live in misery and squalor.

But according to an investigative report published in the pan-Arab newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat, there are at least 600 millionaires living in the Gaza Strip. The newspaper report also refutes the claim that the Gaza Strip has been facing a humanitarian crisis because of an Israeli blockade.

Mohammed Dahlan, the former Palestinian Authority security commander of the Gaza Strip, further said last week that Hamas was the only party that was laying siege to the Gaza Strip; that it is Hamas, and not Israel or Egypt, that is strangling and punishing the people there.

The Palestinian millionaires, according to the report, have made their wealth thanks to the hundreds of underground tunnels along the border between the Gaza Strip and Egypt.

Informed Palestinian sources revealed that every day, in addition to weapons, thousands of tons of fuel, medicine, various types of merchandise, vehicles, electrical appliances, drugs, medicine and cigarettes are smuggled into the Gaza Strip through more than 400 tunnels. A former Sudanese government official who visited the Gaza Strip lately was quoted as saying that he found basic goods that were not available in Sudan. Almost all the tunnels are controlled by the Hamas government, which has established a special commission to oversee the smuggling business, which makes the Hamas government the biggest benefactor of the smuggling industry.

Palestinians estimate that 25% of the Hamas government’s budget comes from taxes imposed on the owners of the underground tunnels.

For example, Hamas has imposed a 25% tax and a $2000 fee on every car that is smuggled into the Gaza Strip. Hamas also charges $15 dollars for each ton of cement, eight cents for a pack of cigarettes and 50 cents for each liter of fuel smuggled through the tunnels.

For Hamas, the Palestinian sources said, the tunnels are a matter of life or death.

Now, however, Hamas is facing a huge crisis as the Egyptian authorities plan to regain control over Sinai in the aftermath of the recent killing of 16 Egyptian border guards by unidentified terrorists.

The Egyptian army appears to be determined to destroy the underground tunnels out of fear that they are being used to smuggle not only goods and fuel, but also Islamist terrorists who pose a threat to Egypt’s national security.

At this stage, however, it is not clear whether Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood President, Mohamed Morsi, would allow his army to cut off one of Hamas’s main sources of income. Morsi’s policy thus far has been to embrace and strengthen Hamas at the expense of the Western-backed Palestinian Authority in the West Bank.

If the Egyptian army succeeds in its anti-terror security crackdown in Sinai, including the demolition of all the underground tunnels that keep Hamas running, it could mark the beginning of the end of the Islamist movement’s rule over the Gaza Strip. But if Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood tie the hands of their generals and prevent them from completing the mission, Hamas will become even stronger and wealthier.

JewishNewsOne – A huge explosion rocked Venezuela’s biggest oil refinery early on Saturday – killing at least 39 people and injuring more than 80 others in the worst disaster in memory for the country’s key oil industry. Balls of fire rose over the Amuay refinery, one of the largest in the world, and lit up the night sky as firefighters struggled to contain the burning blaze. The explosion shattered walls of nearby shops, ripped out windows from homes and left the surrounding streets covered with rubble and twisted scraps of metal.

At least 86 people were injured, nine of them seriously, the country’s health minister said at a hospital where the injured were taken. She said 77 people suffered light injuries and were released. Flames reaching nearly 100 feet into the air still crackled almost 20 hours after the explosion – giving off searing heat felt by the residents of a neighbourhood approximately 1,000 feet away.

Dick Morris poll: Romney clobbering Obama 50-43

Morris’s poll differs greatly from those being pushed by the usual pollsters. He says, however, that he used “the same methodologies I used so successfully for Clinton.”

Dick Morris – With all the conflicting polls and survey samples using registered — as opposed to likely — voters, I decided to conduct my own poll using the same methodologies I used so successfully for Clinton.

On Thursday, August 23rd, I conducted a national survey of 500 likely voters through live telephone interviews. The poll finds Romney ahead of Obama by 50-43! — far, far different from the published polls.

(The sample was 33% Democrat, 31% Republican, 11% black, and 8% Latino).

Apart from the head-to-head vote question, my survey tracks with the others on most of its internals.

Obama’s personal favorability is 47-50 while Romney’s is 48-48. The president’s job approval is at 46%.

Asked who would do the best job of:

Improving the economy = O-39 / R-49

Creating jobs = O-38 / R-50

Strengthening Medicare = O-44 / R-42

While the Medicare issue is important, it is not the major factor. Asked which is more important, “protecting and strengthening Medicare or improving the economy and creating jobs?” The economy wins by 67-18.

Comparing Medicare plans without explaining them, voters break even with 41% favoring Obama’s and 42% backing Romney’s. Asked which scares them the most, Obama’s scared 46% and Romney’s scared 44%.

But Vice Presidential candidate Paul Ryan has scored a bull’s eye by his comparison of the two Medicare plans and the following answers indicate:

Whose plan do you agree with more? Obama who would save $716 in Medicare spending and use the money to cover the uninsured or Romney who would make the same savings but use the funds to extend the life of the Medicare trust fund?

Obama’s 38% / Romney’s 53%

Washington Times – CHARLOTTE — A storm is headed toward Florida, and there may be another one en route to Charlotte. The first is a hurricane, the second an issues forum that may include as many as 20,000 participants.

Either way, there is an ill wind blowing for each city.

The Democratic National Convention is endorsing a political platform for the organizers of a program called the “Jumah at the DNC.” It begins with a jummah prayer on Friday, August 31 and ends on September 2,

On the surface it appears that the event, organized by the Bureau of Indigenous Muslim Affairs (BIMA), is cultural fun for the whole family whose only political focus is Muslims’ right to assembly, but it is much more than that.

The DNC lists the assembly as an “official function” and claims that the leaders of the program are typical of the DNC community. The group is hardly “mainstream,” being represented by Siraj Wahhaj, who will be the “Grand Imam” for the gathering.

Wahhaj rose to prominence on the Muslim speaking circuit after he became the first Muslim to give an invocation to the United States Congress. Following 9/11, his fame as a moderate Muslim increased when he stated, “I now feel responsible to preach, actually to go on a jihad against extremism.”

The reality of Wahhaj’s efforts is not as moderate as the image he projects, however.

Wahhaj and the co-leader of the Charlotte event, Jibril Hough, are both heavily involved in the separatist American Islamist movement. Many of the participants in the “Jumah at the DNC” will most likely represent radical networks that have long-time, but little-known, operations in the Charlotte region.

There are two forms of lying that are permitted in Islam under certain circumstances, taqiyya and kitman.  Such circumstances are typically those that advance the cause of Islam – in some cases by gaining the trust of non-believers in order to draw out their vulnerability and defeat them.

Basically, taqiyya is lying by saying something that isn’t true.

Charlotte’s jumah will be a prime example of taqiyya. It will use the convention as cover for “town hall” activities designed to create awareness of the victimization of Muslims and Islamophobia. The Obama Administration’s pandering to Muslims will add considerable strength to the gathering and its agenda.

Gateway Pundit – A Navy SEAL is releasing the real story on the Osama Bin Laden raid.

For the first time a member of SEAL Team 6 has written a book setting the record straight on the raid on Osama Bin Laden’s compound in Pakistan. The book was not authorized by the Obama Administration and will give the real story not told by the Obama-media.

The book was vetted by a former special operation’s attorney. The majority of the proceeds from the book will go to charities that support families of fallen Navy SEALs.

The U.S. government was surprised by the news that a Navy SEAL who participated in the raid on Osama bin Laden’s compound in Pakistan has written a book about the operation in which the al Qaeda leader was killed, U.S. officials said on Wednesday.

“No Easy Day: The Firsthand Account of the Mission that Killed Osama Bin Laden” was written by a Navy SEAL under the pseudonym Mark Owen with co-author Kevin Maurer and is to be released next month on the anniversary of the September 11 attacks.

It was not vetted by government agencies to ensure that no secrets were revealed.

“The book was vetted by a former special operations attorney. He vetted it for tactical, technical, and procedural information as well as information that could be considered classified by compilation and found it to be without risk to national security,” Christine Ball, a spokeswoman for the publisher, Dutton, told Reuters…

Dutton, which is a member of the Penguin Group (USA), said the Navy SEAL author’s experience culminated with “Operation Neptune Spear” in Abbottabad, Pakistan, where he led one of the assault teams on bin Laden’s compound and was “one of the first men through the door on the third floor of the terrorist leader’s hideout and was present at his death.”

The Navy SEAL is described as a former member of the U.S. Special Warfare Development Group, commonly known as SEAL Team Six, who was involved in hundreds of missions around the world.

His name and the names of the other SEALs mentioned in the book were changed for security reasons, the publisher said. The majority of the proceeds from the book will go to charities that support families of fallen Navy SEALs, the publisher said.

“It is time to set the record straight about one of the most important missions in U.S. military history,” the Navy SEAL author said in the book, according to the publisher’s statement. “‘No Easy Day’ is the story of ‘the guys,’ the human toll we pay, and the sacrifices we make to do this dirty job.”

Congressional Republicans criticized the administration for granting generous access to policymakers and some intelligence and defense personnel to a Hollywood team preparing a film on the bin Laden raid for release later this year.

For the record… Barack Obama canceled the operation to kill Osama bin Laden on three separate occasions, before finally approving the May 2, 2011 Navy SEAL mission – and he waited 16 hours before he made the call.

According to Judicial Watch, Rep. Edolphous Towns (D-NY) has introduced the Presidential Records Act Amendments of 2011. That bill would do with Obama’s presidential records what Obama has already done to his personal and collegiate records: Seal them up.

In an obvious effort to protect President Barack Obama, a group of congressional Democrats has introduced legislation to create an official process that will allow the commander-in-chief to keep presidential records secret after he leaves office.

Ironically, Obama revoked a similar George W. Bush order in one of his first official acts as president. In 2001 Bush penned an executive order severely limiting public access to his presidential records. Shortly after swearing in, Obama killed it as part of his much-ballyhooed commitment to government transparency. At the time, the new president claimed that he was giving the American people greater access to “historic documents.”

If the Democrats’ proposed measure (Presidential Records Act Amendments of 2011) becomes law, former presidents will be allowed to assert a new “constitutionally based privilege” against disclosing records of their liking. Here is how it would work; the Archivist of the United States would be required to notify the former president, as well as the incumbent, of intentions to make records public. Anything that either the former or current president claims should be kept private won’t be released.

Thrush writes that Obama was reluctant to play golf with Boehner, because he knew Boehner would beat him.

Arutz Sheva – Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi will meet Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad at next month’s U.N. General Assembly in New York, diplomatic sources say.

In addition, U.N. General-Secretary Ban Ki-moon has invited President Obama to join the two leaders at a VIP lunch on Sept. 25, the opening day of the General Assembly, The Washington Times reported.

Iranian official Mohammad Reza Forqani dismissed the speculations saying, “Publishing such a report by the Washington Times daily is a media commotion,” the Fars News Agency reported.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will not attend the assembly, but will send Defense Minister Ehud Barak in his stead.

Meanwhile, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas is expected to pursue statehood recognition when he addresses the assembly on Sept. 29. Though not a member of the U.N., Abbas is being treated as an unofficial leader of a de facto state.

British Prime Minister David Cameron, Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda, South African President Jacob Zuma are also expected to attend, according to a list obtained by The Washington Times.

According to the report, notable absentees include Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Hu Jintao, both of whom have vetoed U.N. Security Council resolutions for stronger action against Syrian President Bashar Assad.

Pakistani President Ali Zadari and Afghan President Hamid Karzai also will not attend the assembly.

Daily Mail – (h/t Weasel Zippers) Homeland Security boss Janet Napolitano is facing a mega lawsuit from an official who claims she gave a less-qualified woman with whom she has a ‘long-standing relationship’ a job over him.

The suit also accuses Napolitano of turning the department into a female-run ‘frat house’ where male staffers were routinely humiliated and on the receiving end of ‘sexually charged games’.

Napolitano’s chief of staff Suzanne Barr repeatedly targeted men because of their gender and once called a male employee’s hotel room to use sexually explicit language, the suit claims.

James T. Hayes Jr., a special agent in charge of New York City investigations for Immigration and Customs Enforcement, filed the lawsuit in Washington, the New York Post reported.

He claims Napolitano favoured Dora Schriro, who had worked as director of the Arizona Department of Corrections when Napolitano was governor of the state, for a job due to their relationship.

Hayes first worked as a border patrol agent in 1995 and then served as director of ICE Detention and Removal Operations in Washington, DC, but was demoted after Napolitano’s appointment, he claims.

In February 2009, she appointed Schriro as a ‘special adviser’ and began pushing him out of meetings, the lawsuit says.

Hayes claims that Schriro, who is now commissioner of the city Department of Correction, was not as qualified him for the role as she did not have as much law-enforcement experience.

‘Schriro did have experience, however, working with Secretary Napolitano,’ it writes. ‘Schriro enjoyed a long-standing relationship with the secretary.’

The lawsuit does not outline the exact nature of the relationship between Napolitano and the woman she brought with her to Washington from Arizona.

It has long been rumoured that ‘Big Sis’ Napolitano is a lesbian, but in 2002 she publicly denied the claims.
